Influenced by John Gordon Rattenbury’s autobiography, this film is a unique cinematic representation of his experience in the 1940s; being part of World War II. Developed through a combination of primary and secondary sourced still images, ranging from beautiful scenic images, to various intimate portraits. The film will explore how intrusive the war had been to an ordinary family, as well as developing an interesting insight to a soldiers life leading up to the war, and his days during the war. The film will integrate with various locations, individuals, and sounds world wide, showing how the devastating effects of the war have globalized the world, as well as uniting Europe together (post-war).
The films main focus will be to show how drastically a soldier’s life had changed due to the war, as well as showing how they lived each day. The brutality of war won’t be the main feature in this film, the main focus will be on everyday life; things we see as normal today where brand new in the 40’s, such as travelling all over the world, and none English foods (bananas, French foods), showing how the war had globalized the war.
Shots will show intimate and intrusive moments during the war, which will bewilder and cause discomfort to any mind, showing the mental and physical strength of the men engaged with the war, as well as how, in this story, the soldiers will always try to look at the brighter side, bringing hope to the war and increasing the positive moral of the British soldiers.
